Khin Maung Kyaw

Biography of the director

Cinematographer and director Khin Maung Kyaw is originally from Thanbyuzayat in Myanmar’s Mon State, but now lives in Yangon. Joining YFS in 2011 kick-started his career in documentary; he has since worked on a large number of films as cinematographer, including Take Me Home by Shin Daewe which won Best Documentary Award at the Wathann Film Festival in Yangon in 2013. Co-founded with fellow YFS-alumnus Sai Kong Kham, his production company Tagu Films is one of the country’s top addresses for independent filmmaking. When the Boat Comes In, which screened at the prestigious Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival in Japan among others, was Khin Maung Kyaw’s directorial debut.
