Soe Arkar Htun was born and raised in Yangon. He began his career in digital marketing and communications but immediately discovered his passion for filmmaking when he joined Yangon Film School in 2014. His first short documentary as director, A Political Life, travelled to various film festivals including Alpavirama (India) and Watersprite (UK), where it received Best Student Documentary Award. Having gained his first producing credit during a YFS ‘true fictions’ course working on the short film The School Uniform, he has since produced a number of projects made by fellow YFS-students, in particular Sai Naw Kham’s films The Forgotten Voices of the Mekong and Song of Souls. Soe Arkar Htun has attended producing courses and workshops in Cambodia and was a scholarship student at the Busan Asian Film School (AFiS) in 2018. Having joined the School’s management team as Junior Producer in 2019, he was promoted to the role of Deputy Director of YFS in 2020.
