Paing Aung

Biography of the director

Born in Yangon in 1993, Paing Aung began his career as a journalist in 2014 and worked for a number of outlets before taking part in the 2017 Yangon Photo Festival with a photo-story about Mogok ruby mine workers. Since enrolling at Yangon Film School in 2020, he has worked on several documentary projects in various capacities including as cinematographer on Kaung Swan Thar’s Pilikan – a Hindu Temple in Thanlyin in Myanmar. Hope Called Tomorrow was his first documentary as a director. He has since directed two more documentaries: his second-year project The Road to Hope and a graduation project about the fishers of Meinmahla island in the Ayeyawady delta.
