Born in Yangon in 1975, director Kyi Phyu Shin has numerous feature-length dramas to her credit, including the historical epic The Great Victory of Arimadanapura. The first YFS course in 2005, during which she made Peace of Mind, marked her first encounter with the documentary genre. For her next documentary, A Sketch of Wathone (2006), she chose to portray a painter whose life and work had long been an inspiration to her. Produced by the School’s production arm, The Merry Widows of Nam Mun Village was her first NGO commission.
